A strong warning about how much weight Americans are gaining; By 2030, an astonishing 42 percent of Americans will be obese.

According to the results of a recent study, 11 percent of Americans will be extremely obese, which means that many are currently100 pounds more than they should be to be healthy.

As of 2010, 36 percent of adults were obese, or around 30 pounds overweight, and 6% are extremely obese.

If the rate of obesity increases, as the study predicts, it may mean there will be over 100 million obese people in the United States, in only 18 years.

These numbers are alarming, and also come with a large price tag.

The report published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine proposes that the obesity increase will cost an extra $550 billion in medical costs henceforth until 2030.

It is predicted that an obese person costs, at the very least, $1,400 more in medical expenses each year than those who maintain a healthy weight.

Carrying around extra weight increases the risk of a lot of other diseases, which includes serveral types of cancer, diabetes, sleep apnea and heart disease.

Obesity in the U.S. is one of the leading causes of the skyrocketing health care costs in the last two decades.

The authors of the report say the American environment advocates obesity, with cheap junk food and fast-food chains, along with advances in technology such as the Internet, which keeps people sitting at their office or in their homes, all day.

At the same time, the recent study does not even discuss children. Presently, one out of three children in the U.S. suffers from being overweight or obese.
