Tampa Bay Rays witnessed the moments of soaring spirits that were almost impossible to imagine in the wildest of their dreams. Champagne began to flow after midnight on Thursday through the Tampa Bay Ray clubhouse to rejoice the victory.
The event was hard to believe even if witnessed personally. The Rays team members were jubilant and trying to absorb what they had just lived. It was like a blurred baseball dream turned into reality.
James Shields while sharing his happiness commented he has not yet processed what has happened. He said he knows only one thing that Tampa Bay Rays has won the match and is going to the playoffs.
With similar excitement, outfielder, Sam Fuld said he is a statistician but even then could not imagine the chances of this happening.
The season for Rays team was on the verge of disappointing end when they battled back against the New York Yankees in the eighth innings when they were facing a seven-run deficit. They won in the 12th inning by 8-7 and made it to the playoffs.
Dan Johnson who was recalled from Durham just hours before delivered the pinch hit home run. He struggled as a starter in the beginning of the season and later became the savior for Rays in the season. Earlier in 2008, Dan Johnson had notched the biggest ever home run for Rays.
Red Sox fans are going to hate Dan Johnson, Tampa Bay Rays hero, for generations to come as a man who appeared from nowhere to give them a never healing wound in their heart.
