Royal Family Suing Magazine Over Topless Pictures Of The Duchess
Topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge, shot with a long-lens last week while the royal couple honey mooned at a secluded relative’s home in Provence France, is earning a French magazine a royal lawsuit.
In a statement given on Friday, St. Jame’s Palace said that legal proceedings for breach of privacy commenced Friday in France by the royal couple.
Prince William and Kate were informed about the pics while they ate breakfast before they visited a mosque in Malaysia, where the couple is on tour. A source informed ABC News that the couple was “saddened” initially, but then that turned into shock followed by anger.
The editor of Closer France gave a statement in French saying that the photographs they selected for the magazine were not degrading. He also clarified that the pictures were not related to the UK incarnation of Closer magazine.
The blurry topless photographs were additionally offered to the UK’s Sunday Mirror and Daily Mirror last week, according to the publishers of those magazines in a statement given to Yahoo News. Their reply was that they had the same offer for Prince Harry’s naked proofs, which they also declined to buy or publish.
For its part regarding the topless pictures of the Duchess, the chief executive of the UK Closer declared the publishers and owners of the brand “appalled,” and posted a statement on its website that read in part that they deplore the publication of the offensive and intrusive photos and asked that the Closer France take them down immediately from its website and stop publishing any more pics.
