Country singer Mindy McCready, who rose to the top of the country charts before her personal problems took over her career, passed away on Sunday in Arkansas from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. She was 37.
According to a news release from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, she was found dead at a home in Heber Springs. An autopsy is pending.
This was not McCready’s first attempt at suicide. The troubled singer’s list of problems only mounted in 2013.
Earlier this month, McCready went into court-ordered rehab after her father alleged that she was not taking care of her children, or herself and was abusing alcohol and drugs. Her son was placed in foster care, but it is not clear where Zayne and Zander were when she died.
McCready’s boyfriend David Wilson, the father of her youngest son, passed away last month in Arkansas also. His body was found by authorities at the same place where McCready’s body was found on Sunday, it is believed his death was also a suicide.
McCready was struck hard by the passing of Wilson. Last month she issued a statement lamenting his death. In an interview with NBC’s Today she said he was her soul mate and helped her care for her sons.” She said she’d never gone through anything as painful as his death.
“I just keep telling myself that the more suffering that I go through, the greater character I’ll have,” she said, according to a transcript of the interview.
