Facebook’s Google+ Invite Scam Alert
July 5, 2011, US – The Internet domination war between giants Google and Facebook brings out opportunists and victims.
While Google is busy testing Google+ before the onslaught in the social networking arena, online scammers are using social network supreme master Facebook to profit in the interim.
Scammers are exploiting the fact that Google+’s field testing is a closed, invitation-only deal. Having an invitation is a very valuable commodity and scammers are using the oldest trick in the book to profit.
How would you like a free invitation to test Google Plus? All you have to do is click the “Like” button. This is like a pedophile offering candy to a kid except you don’t even get the candy, just the terrible consequences of the prey.
Here’s the picture. Scammers are leveraging Facebook 500 million+ users by offering a free hot, in-demand, valuable, invitation to test Google’s social network Google+ just by doing something Facebook users do all the time (click the “Like” button).
When you click “Like”, unwanted updates are made to your newsfeed. You are added to the spammer’s list and spam posts will be sent to your Facebook timeline.
And, if you haven’t guessed by now, you won’t be getting any Google Plus invitation. What’s more, with a little creativity, scammers can get to more sensitive information like credit cards.
No, scammers will not limit themselves to Facebook. Opportunists will exploit any avenue they can exploit. Solution? NO ONE is giving you their very valuable Google+ invitation for free anywhere. So, look away and move on.
